3~ Matthews Food Truck Friday at Stumptown Park.
This small town event makes you feel like you’re in Mayberry. Located in historic “downtown” Matthews, it’s a low key way to hang out with friends. Listen to some live music, get some eats from some of the many food trucks, bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy. There is no alcohol served her but have seen many people bring coolers of wine and spirits. Parking is easy. It’s from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Visit the Facebook page, where you’ll find Facebook events that will give you information on the food trucks that will be there, as well as, hopefully the music artists who will be performing.
4~ Tuckfest at the White Water Center!
Tuck Fest is a three-day festival that celebrates the outdoor lifestyle through competitions, exhibitions, demos, and live music at the U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC). The festival features a variety of outdoor sport competitions that include trail running, family adventure races, kayaking, biking, climbing, stand-up paddleboarding, and adventure racing. The name “Tuck Fest” comes from the Tuckaseegee Ford and Trail, a historical landmark located at the USNWC.
5~ Tree Climbing Competition at Freedom Park
On Saturday, April 23rd and 24th, the Charlotte Arborists Association is hosting the annual Tree Climbing Competition at Freedom Park, 1900 East Boulevard. More than 40 professional tree climbers (did you know that there are professional tree climbers?) will compete for prizes, bragging rights, and a pretty cool belt buckle. Participants will compete in five categories: Work Climb, Throwline, Footlock, Belayed Speed Climb and Aerial Rescue. Top finishers will compete for the title of Master Tree Climbing Champion on Sunday.
The competition is from 8am to 5pm both days. Perhaps most fun of all, you and your family can get in on the tree climbing action at the Family Fun Climb on Saturday from 10am to 5:30pm. Professional Certified Arborists will help climbers into saddles attached to ropes that have been secured up in the crown of the tree, and professional climbing instructors will work with each climber. The Family Fun Climb is free and it’s also free to watch the competition.
