44th Annual Dilworth Home Tour 9/17/16

Friday 6-9 PM and Saturday, September 17, from 10 AM – 5 PM

Have you ever drooled over the historic Dilworth homes and wanted to peak in? If so, now is your chance. Since 1972 Dilworth has opened its doors and welcomed friends and neighbors to its charming corner of Charlotte in one of Dilworth’s oldest and grandest traditions: the annual Dilworth Home Tour.

The tour is Dilworth’s only fundraiser. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales is also donated to the Dilworth Cares focus agency of the year.  This year’s Dilworth Cares recipient is Dilworth Soup Kitchen.

How/Where To Get Tickets

Until Sept. 15th, tickets will be available for purchase for $25 each via Paypal at Dilworthonline.org (show your receipt at any of the Tour homes to pick up these tickets). You can also purchase tickets at Paper Skyscraper, Dilworth Drugs, Park Road Books, and Ultra Running Company. On September 15th the ticket price goes up to $30 and you can purchase your tickets at the venues mentioned above, online, and at most of the tour homes during the tour. The homes on tour are: 2001 Dilworth Road West, 1918 Lennox, 1114 Linganore, 2402 Cumberland, 504 McDonald, 1715 Euclid, and 1238 Belgrave.

Don’t Know Much About Dilworth?

Dilworth is one of Charlotte’s most desirable neighborhoods located in the stunning historic part of Charlotte. Originally created as Charlotte’s first street-car suburb, Dilworth is designated as historic, with many homes on the National Registry. Most Dilworth homes were built from the 1900s to the ’30s and are filled with fascinating architectural details and great history. The wide and winding tree-lined streets and community feel add to the charm. Latta Park, centrally located in the neighborhood, offers a playground, water park and theater. Residents and visitors alike enjoy strolling through the neighborhood and the easy walk to some of Charlotte’s favorite restaurants and shops on East Boulevard and South End. Additionally, the proximity to downtown and the light rail make this neighborhood very convenient.

Tiny House Rally 09/10/16 – 09/11/16

These are tiny houses!

11:00am to 3:30pm

Maybe you’ve seen tiny houses on HGTV.  They are fascinating.  Quite a contrast to our bigger is better mentality. Instead of 4000 sq ft, try 400! Sometimes I fantasize about living in one; all four of us, including our teen and tween, where they would have no choice but to spend “quality time” with us ( instead of in their rooms on their devices or on instagram). I’m sure they would love it;)

Have YOU ever  dreamed of down-sizing your life? The Garden’s first ever Tiny House Rally will provide a glimpse of what it’s like to live the “Tiny” lifestyle! Home owners  from the Carolinas and beyond have been invited to bring their portable homes on-site for our viewing pleasure. In addition to tiny home tours, there will be expert speakers of the tiny house movement providing lectures to help us learn more about this unique lifestyle. Also, this is a great way to check out the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden if you haven’t already!

First 100 guests each day will receive a free giveaway from Lowes! There will also raffle off a Big Green Egg MiniMax compliments of Big Al’s Trading Post. Lunch and other fun activities will be available.

Where? Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden

6500 South New Hope Road Belmont, NC 28012

How much? $20/$25/$30

The Mid-Century Modern Home Tour is back.  If you geek out on mid-century modern and want to peek into an amazing collection of homes designed in this architectural style, you won’t want to miss this.

Mid-Century modern is an architectural, interior, product and graphic design that generally describes mid-20th century developments in modern design, architecture and urban development from roughly 1933 to 1965.

As Bradley Quinn in his monograph of Mid-century design illustrates, “Mid-century homes were inhabited by a new generation of Americans, who altered their expectations of the home as they grew to appreciate novel types of living spaces and the landscapes surrounding them.” Southpark
